Letter from the Principal August 7, 2007
Opening of School Information

August 8, 2007

Good People of St. Nicholas Academy,

Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year.  We have been working very hard to get the building ready and we are looking forward to our new journey as St. Nicholas Academy.  We will begin on Tuesday August 21st.  The school day runs from 8:15 A.M. – 2:45 P.M.  Students may enter homerooms starting at 8:00 A.M.  Doors leading into the school will be open until 8:15 A.M. and then locked.  Presently the location of the buzzer system is at the side door across from the Rectory.  When/if this changes I will communicate this to you.

Homeroom lists are presently being finalized and will be posted outside of the homerooms on Tuesday August 21st.  There have been several requests for placement in specific homerooms.  Please remember that when more than 1 one homeroom exists at a grade level students will have BOTH teachers during the course of the day.  In the case of Junior High students will see ALL teachers assigned. Teachers and staff will be here to assist students in finding their homerooms.   The following are the list of homerooms:

  • Kindergarten – Room # 1 Mrs. Miller basement of the school

  • Grade 1 – Room # 4 Mrs. Schmits main floor of the school

  • Grade2 – Room # 2 Mrs. O’Shea main floor of the school across from the office

  • Grade 3 – Room # 6 Mrs. Horejs 2nd floor of the school

  • Grade 4 – Room # 7 Mrs. Seither 2nd floor of the school

  • Grade 5 – Room # 11 Mrs. Burke Room # 10 Mrs. Steineman 2nd floor of the school

  • Grade 6 – Room # 13 Miss Braun Room # 14 Mrs. Perkins 3rd floor of the school

  • Grade 7 – Room # 15 Mr. Hertlein 3rd floor of the school

  • Grade 8 – Room # 16 Mrs. Wright Room # 17 Mr. Laudeman 3rd floor of the school

  • Art Room - Room # 5 main floor of the school

  • Music Room – Room # 12, Mrs. Russell 3rd floor of the school

  • Computer Lab – Room # 18, Mr. Giese 3rd floor of the school

  • Library – Room # 19, Mrs. Perry 3rd floor of the school

  • School Office – main floor of the school, Mrs. Dunham, Mrs. Graler and Mr. Myers

We will begin each day with prayer and pledge of allegiance at 8:15A.M.  This is sacred time for us and all movement should stop until after the opening prayer and announcement.

With the amount of cars doubling for our afternoon pick up I am concerned about student safety.  Whenever children and cars are moving at the same time there is a danger.  With this in mind we have developed the following system for afternoon pick up students by car.  I have assigned three staff members who will be on duty at 2:45.  They will assist in this dismissal.  Please know that I have put this in place with STUDENT SAFETY in mind:

  1. Enter the parking lot between 2:30-2:45 from Maryland and Deer Park Ave. from the Church facing the Cafeteria.  The line nearest the Maryland will be dismissed first followed by the other lines.  Please do not go past the orange cones placed nearest the cafeteria.   At 2:45 a teacher will raise the Stop sign and no one will be permitted to enter the parking lot until students have been picked up.
  2. Students will gather at the cafeteria Sign and be dismissed to cars once entrance to the parking lot has stopped.
  3. Teachers will direct Cars to leave via Deer Park Ave. in lines, (the line nearest Maryland Ave. will leave first followed by the next line etc. ) once all students are loaded.
  4. Once the lines have been dismissed cars may pull into the parking lot to pick up students not leaving in the first exodus.
  5. Please DO NOT enter or leave the parking lot via the drive way between the school and the rectory.

Students are expected to be uniform for the first day of classes.  There are many options for the boys and girls uniform outlined on the Web Site.

A lunch menu and procedure is also outlined on the Web Site.  Please refer to it when making decisions for lunch.  A menu will also come home on the first day of school.

Each Friday the school community will gather for prayer in St. John the Evangelist Church at 8:30 A.M.  Our first prayer service will be held on Friday August 24th.  On Friday August 31st we will have our first All School Mass at 8:30 A.M.  Please plan on joining us for prayer when you can.  During most weeks Fr. Tom or Fr. Ray will be our celebrant.  On Friday October 19th Archbishop Pilarzyk will preside for our school Liturgy.

We are all very excited about the new school year and ask for your continued prayers and St. Nicholas Academy.

Sincerely,

Mr. Gerry Myers,

Principal
