Art Enrichment Program

St. Nicholas Academy: Art Enrichment Program

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am happy to present to you and your children a unique educational opportunity.  I would like to invite you to take part in an awesome extracurricular artistic experience through affordable after-school Art workshops.

All workshops will be offered school- year-round and open to all St. Nicholas Academy students (unless otherwise mentioned.)  Each class will run slightly longer than one hour after school and will end promptly at 4:00 p.m.  Fees vary slightly as indicated, and will be due in cash at the beginning of the first class of each workshop.

I have enclosed a form that must be filled out for each workshop you sign up for.  Please place this form and all workshop fees in cash in a sealed envelope.  ALL FORMS AND FEES ARE DUE IN MY MAILBOX BY 8:30 a.m. ON THE DAY OF THE WORKSHOP!  (Sorry, no exceptions.)  Please note: siblings will not be allowed in the school building during the workshop.  We will end each day promptly at 4:00 p.m.  Students will be released through the door by the rectory garage, and Extended Day students will be walked over to Miss Bev.

If your child has to miss a workshop due to illness or family emergency, (s)he will have an opportunity to make up the class at no additional charge.

If you have any questions or suggestions for a new workshop, please feel free to email me at jferdon@stnacademy.org.  I look forward to being a part of your child’s educational enrichment!

Thank you again for your interest and enthusiasm!  As always, please feel free to email me with any questions, comments, or concerns.

                                                                                                                                 Sincerely,    Mrs. Jeannie Ferdon

Students will learn how to approach a large scale drawing of a live model, incorporating value, texture, and proportion.

FIGURE SCULPTURE - 3 classes - $60

This workshop will focus on three dimensional form.  Students will create a self portrait out of clay.  All pieces will be bisque fired.

CERAMICS - 3 classes - $60

Students will have an opportunity to take our class lesson further, creating a larger scale ceramic pot or bowl.  The third class will be designated for glazing.  All pieces will be kiln fired and permanent!

BOOKMAKING - 2 classes - $40

Students will learn 3 different bookmaking techniques, as well as creative ideas for displaying term papers, poetry, and personalized books!

PORTRAITURE - 2 classes - $40

This workshop will focus solely on drawing portraits.  Students will receive detailed instruction on how to realistically capture features and expressions.

LANDSCAPE PAINTING - 1 class - $20 (seasonal)

This workshop will give students an opportunity to paint from real life.  We will focus on outdoor landscape/topography, depth and space on a two dimensional surface, and color mixing.

CALLIGRAPHY - 1 class - $20

Students will explore different lettering and font styles and create a word/image artwork.

CREATIVE COLOR THEORY - 2 classes - $40

Students will explore in depth the color wheel, with focus on the many different color schemes, using color to show depth and value, and experimenting with tints and shades.  Each student will recreate a famous artwork of their choice.

PERSPECTIVE - 2 classes - $40

This workshop is designed for students who have an interest in perspective drawing.  We will revisit and review 2 point perspective and create a drawing in 3 point perspective.

ILLUSTRATION - 2 classes - $40

In this workshop, students will learn the basics of illustration, including craft, integrating word and image, and using a variety of media.  Students will be required to provide a story or book of their choice as subject for illustration.

BASIC STILL LIFE - 1 class - $20

In this workshop, students will practice basic drawing from a simple still life.  Students will focus on shape and proportion, while incorporating value and texture.

ADVANCED STILL LIFE - 1 class - $20

This workshop is designed for the artist who is seriously interested in realism in drawing.  Each student enrolled must first take the Basic Sill Life workshop as a pre-requisite.  This advanced workshop will be based entirely on perfecting basic drawing techniques, and will also briefly explore color and value.

FIBER ARTS - 2 classes - $40

This workshop is for the hands-on student.  With sensitivity to basic sculpture and three dimensional art-making principles, students will explore fiber art.  Each student will create a puppet in the style of the artistically phenomenal Mad Cap Puppeteers, with special lessons in simple sewing and moveable, functional artwork.

BATIK - 5 classes - $150 (materials fee)

In this in-depth workshop, students will learn how to create an artwork using an advanced wax-resist and dye process.  Students must be able to commit everyday for an entire week.  Workshop is only available to fifth grade students and above.
