St. Nicholas Academy: The Early Years

St. Nicholas Academy offers a full day Kindergarten program as well as a PreSchool program.  The pride of St. Nicholas Academy is in the quality of education available during the Early Years (PreSchool through 1st Grade).  We believe this to be the foundation of the faith based education available at St. Nicholas Academy; the educators at these levels are respected and have been commended by all who are fortunate enough to have a child in the Early Years program.

For parents considering St. Nicholas Academy, we encourage you to call the school
office to set up an appointment to come and observe our pre-school, kindergarten or 1st grade environments.

Preschool at St. Nicholas Academy...."Go out and tell the good news"...

St. Nicholas Academy provides a quality learning experience for the preschool child.  These early years, before formal schooling, are a time when the foundation for success in school can be fostered.  The investment in this experience is sound and significant to develop independent, creative problem solvers.  The curriculum is based upon State and Archdiocese of Cincinnati standards and the use of space supports the curriculum’s goals of enhancing the child’s creative and intellectual development and providing a safe, exciting and nurturing environment.

  • Our 3 day 2 ½ hour experience provides the four year old child with the opportunity to acquire the skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies that are necessary before entering kindergarten.

  • Our 2 day 2 ½ hour preschool experience for the three year old child supports the philosophy that all children are ready to learn the skills that help them effectively read, write and communicate with others.

Most importantly, St. Nicholas Academy recognizes the dignity of each child and supports his/her endeavor to achieve a positive self-esteem and healthy self-discipline

Kindergarten

Kindergarten at St. Nicholas Academy...."Go out and tell the good news"...

St. Nicholas Academy offers a full-day kindergarten that follows state and Archdiocese of Cincinnati guidelines.  Its goal is to educate the whole child – spiritually, morally, academically, socially, physically, and emotionally.  The kindergarten program provides a nurturing and positive learning experience in a Catholic Christian atmosphere.  A major emphasis is placed on learning respect for oneself, for others, and for all that God created.

The kindergarteners attend the weekly school Mass with their seventh grade Big Buddies.  There are various “Buddy” activities throughout the year.  The Buddy Program benefits both the Big and Little Buddies.  The kindergartners look up to, and learn from, their seventh grade buddies, and the older students learn responsibility for someone other than themselves.

The Kindergarten program at St. Nicholas Academy includes the following:

  • Religion

  • Handwriting

  • Reading/Language Arts

  • Spanish

  • Letter-of-the-Week

  • Physical Education

  • Mathematics

  • Music

  • Social Studies

  • Art

  • Science
